Succulent? Cactus?

by Karen
(Navarre)

My husband has several cacti growing in our backyard. We would like to find both the scientific and common name of this plant.

Drought Smart Plants reply:

Hi Karen, this is a pretty distinctive looking plant. I don't know exactly what it is, but with the serrated / needled edges, this looks like some type of Aloe. It's obviously undergoing some interesting changes due to the blooming cycle.

Hopefully someone else will recognize it and be able to give you more information.

Thanks for posting it!

This is a bromelia (genus). The species could be balansae or penguin. The fruits will tell which one.
