Jade Plant

Hi Can you tell me if Crassula plants are safe for Rabbits. I have an indoor rabbit and also two huge Crassula plants. so far we have managed to keep them apart but just to be on the safe side I’d like to know if they can be eaten by rabbits

Many Kinds of Crassula
by: Jacki

The most common one is the Jade Plant, Crassula ovata or argentea. They go by the common names of Money Tree and others – and good news – rabbits can eat them without any harm. Start slowly with a leaf or two, just to make sure that the individual rabbit can digest them. Once you’re sure, then no need to keep them apart. It’s okay to let them have a nibble.

Having said that, unless your plant is extremely healthy, it’s probably not a good idea to just let the bunny have free choice. There might be nothing left.

For other Crassula species, start with a leaf or two, just to test it out before adding large quantities to your rabbits food dish.

Thanks
by: Julie

Thanks for that info. I dont actually intend to feed it to the rabbit but I was a bit concerned about its safety should he get hold of it accidently. He is like a mountaineer and although he hasnt been on the window sills yet he is a giant rabbit and its not impossible that he may manage it at some point.

Then it’s all good…

You can rest easy knowing that if he does climb the mountain, it won’t hurt him. Good luck with it!
