How do I safely prune this plant? It has grown out of control while I had left with someone else and I want to get it back to health and attractive
Also, what is it called?

Corn Plant
by: Jacki Cammidge, Certified Horticulturist

This is Corn Plant, so called because it looks pretty much like a corn plant (the kind you eat). Don't eat this one though! Botanically, it is Draceana fragrans, even though it rarely flowers until it gets really big.

To prune it, be prepared for some time with just ugly bare stems, as it will take a while for the adventitious buds to break below where you cut it.

This guide has good information on how to grow it, and a little bit on how to prune it, as well as propagating it.
