Cactus Growth

Hi there! We got our cactus about 6 months ago and since then it’s REALLY been growing. The top of the cactus is mushrooming out, and it’s starting to lean. Can you provide any suggestions on how best to care for this big guy, and if there is anything to do to help him?

Too much water!

It’s possible that you’ve watered it more than what it was used to so it’s utilized the extra moisture and stored it at the top. There’s no fix for that at this stage, unfortunately. I think you could cut the top of it off, and root that as a new plant.

As for the leaning, this is typical of a plant that is trying to get more light.

This is harder to fix. You need to be religious about turning the plant one quarter turn every few days to get it to be more evenly lit, or give it a lot brighter place where the light is coming from above rather than the side.
