Mulberry Fruit

We have a huge male mulberry tree. This year for the first time that I have noticed, there are a few branches on it loaded with mulberries. My neighbour has a female tree that at this time if year (in southern Ontario) is heavy with berries, but I’ve never seen them on mine. Is this unusual?

Very unusual

If it’s a male tree, it should not have fruit. Are you sure they’re fruit, or something else? In some cases male branches of fruit trees are grafted onto female trees to provide pollination if there are no other male trees in the vicinity, but this doesn’t sound like this is the case here.

Keep an eye on it to make sure that it’s not actually some kind of disease rather than fruit.

It sounds like you may have a hermaphrodite tree! Very strange, from what I know.
