Is my succulent dying?? What is wrong with it?

Hello. I noticed recently that something was going on with the stem of my succulent plant. It started to look weird and started turning a more yellowish or almost white color closer to the bottom of the stem. I decided to unroot it and this is what it looks like. Does my succulent have root rot or is nothing wrong with it and I should just repot it? It is indoors and I am located in Charlotte, NC right.

As the stem ages, this tends to happen as it becomes more woody. It looks totally normal to me. If it's soggy or otherwise looks like it could be rotting, that's another story.

I would repot it into well drained cactus soil, and carry on.

The more plants you grow from the group of succulents, the more you'll be familiar with what happens once they grow bigger - there are lots of places to buy succulents in their infancy, which looks totally different from when they mature into adult plants.
