Flower Bulb Shop

I want to plant bulbs ONCE. I’m looking for a list of no effort flowers for me.

I want some bulbs/flowers that each bloom in March, April, May, June, July, August, September, and October.

The wife has some tulips, nice, but only stay nice a short time, then die, I thought that if I can find this list, I could buy and plant all of these bulbs, then each month something new will be blooming for her to enjoy, AND I only have to plant them once and they come back each year.

Great idea
by: Jacki Cammidge, Certified Horticulturist

Great idea,in theory. However, this is not as doable as it sounds.

For one thing, your climate / microclimate / growing zone will be totally different than anywhere else, and then there’s the type of soil you have, whether you have shade / sun or a mix of both at different times.

So it’s not just give me a list of plants that bloom at certain times. There will always be some trial and error involved, which after all, is the main reason we garden.

What I suggest is that you do more research on different bulbs and when they flower. Most bulb catalogs will tell you this – even tulips of different varieties spread their bloom time over weeks, even months.

One of my favorite bulb companies sends out a catalog of beautiful choices each year. Get on the mailing list, get out your Sharpie pen, and start circling the ones you like. Then order a selection. This is not going to be one and done. Be prepared for some failures (like they bloom once then disappear forever, or try and take over the world and have to be culled). This could be a long term project.

Check out Veseys for an example of what’s available.

Sorry to give you the bad news, but a list geared towards your particular circumstances could be really expensive and it would surprise me if there was a horticulturist in your area that would even offer this service.
