Nope, not a Jade
by: Jacki

This is a Pachyphytum ovata, or the Sugared Almond Plant – which they look just like.

The greyish powder that covers the leaves is called ‘pruinose’ or ‘bloom’ and is there to protect the plant from the intense sun of their native habitat – this should tell you something.

They will not grow very well if they don’t get enough light, so if you can’t provide enough with the light coming in the windows that you have, please do think about getting a grow light.

They also cannot stand to be overwatered – in fact, if they are kept too wet, the leaves will split open, which although it doesn’t harm the plant, is unsightly. Keep them quite dry at all times.

Although I don’t have a dedicated page for these, they respond well to basic succulent care.

Thank you very much, i did think it was from the Pachyphytum family but never saw the ovata information anywhere. Thank you again for identifying it so fast and the great information. I do have a grow light and will be sure to use it. Cheers
