Growing Wildflowers

Wildflowers in an untended trail

Lots of people in Eastern Ontario have started growing wildflowers.

I was thinking of doing the same as I figured that if they can survive in the wild, then even I can successfully grow them year after year.

We have clay soil and summers are hot and dry.

Are there any wildflowers you reccomend growing? Any you don't recommend (invasive, or attract ticks!)

Which ones might I be able to grow and see blooms this year?

Great idea! You don't say how much ground you have for this wildflower meadow, which would be important. There are two ways to get started; one is to prepare the soil then scatter seeds, the other is to grow the seeds in plugs and (more labor intensive) plant them where you want them to grow.

Suggestion; read through those articles and make some decisions on where you'll put your wildflower garden, and how much work you want to put into it. Will it be part of your regular flower garden? Or separate? Gear your choice of plants to the conditions you already have.

Cheaper to buy a mix

It's cheaper buying seed mixes, but often what you get is a lot of plants that you don't want! Getting them separately, over several years, then you can tailor the selection to your conditions.
