Graveyard with crocus

I was wondering if you could give me some advice about what I could plant on my mom and dad’s grave that doesn’t get real high of say about four to six inches.

And that would come up every year because I live so far away from them. I live and they’re in Minnesota. I’m in the northern part and their grave is in the southern part.

So need something that would come up every year. But not so big that it covers up the headstones. so if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Not my field
by: Jacki Cammidge, Certified Horticulturist

This is definitely not my field of expertise! Other than bulbs like crocuses, I would plant my favorite hardy succulents, such as Sedum and Sempervivum. They’ll survive just fine without your presence, and require little to no care in the interim. They need slightly different soil than what might be there, and some pebbly mulch.

There are lots of mail order sources now, or your local garden center will be able to help you, if you explain to them what you’re after.
