what could cause this? it looks like the skeletal structure of the echeveria leaf is showing and the flesh has been eaten.
this is an echeveria perle von nurnberg

This kind of damage is typically caused by something dropping on the top of the plant, or being dumped on its head.

It doesn't show at the time, but eventually, the scars start to show.

There's nothing you can do about the existing damage, except wait for it to grow out and be covered by new growth.

If that sounds like it will take too long, you can still propagate new plants from the damaged leaves.
