Philodendron
I just got a beautiful philodendron gigantum. I brought it home, watered it cause it was dry, have medium humidity 50%. There is so much water leaking from the leaves that the leaves look water logged in areas. I’m afraid to water it anymore but the moisture meter says it’s dry. What do I do?

Tropical Plant by: Jacki Cammidge, Certified Horticulturist I’ve never grown Philodendron apart from the Swiss Cheese plant, way back in my infancy and prior to becoming a horticulturist. However,I do remember it leaking. I did some research into the leaking phenomenon and it makes sense that the 90% of the water you give it will leak out – this should only be from the stomates on the bottom of the leaf – not ever the top. So if the leaves are looking waterlogged, this could be something else, and without a clear image of your plant, I can’t even begin to imagine what that could be. This article may shed some light on it. |
