Blue Fox Farm's Drought Smart Plants

P.O. Box 596

Grand Forks, B.C. V0H 1H0

There’s never enough thyme! That’s what I believe, anyhow. Here’s a list of all the thymes I have. I custom propagate to your specifications, so please allow 4-6 weeks for me to do that. They will arrive in a 72 cell plug tray, so they can wait a few days to be planted, if need be. Price is $70.00 per flat plus shipping to your area. Minimum order 1/2 flat per variety.

All thyme varieties and species on this list are hardy to Zone 5a, or lower.

Ground Cover Types.

These varieties are very low growing and perfect for stepping on. Plant amongst pavers or rocks, or use for a lawn substitute.

Thymus albus - Lime green foliage with white flowers. Very pretty in combination with coccineus and ‘Magic Carpet’.

Thymus coccineus - Loose vivid green foliage, blooms in a magenta shade in July. This one is great in combination with albus and ‘Magic Carpet’ for more variation in bloom colour.

Thymus ‘Bressingham Pink’ - Lush, thick, soft green foliage, and totally covered in pink blooms. I like this plant for lawns and steps as each plant will make a flat patch of over 60 cm across.

Thymus ‘Doone Valley’ - Variegated gold and very dark green foliage, blooming late in the summer with pretty pink flowers making a great nectar source for the wild bees and wasps here.

Thymus pseudolanuginosis - Also known as woolly thyme, the soft sage green foliage looks just like a Shetland wool sweater. It’s a shy bloomer, only flowering occasionally. That makes for a better dog bed as there are no bees.

Thymus serphyllum ‘Elfin’ - By far the most popular for lawns, patios and rock wall planting. Lovely tiny, dense foliage, smothered in pink blooms in June and July.

Thymus ‘Magic Carpet’Delicate growth habit of small dark green foliage, with pretty dark pink blooms.

Upright Shrubby Types.

The very best for very small hedges or edging:

Thymus argentea - Silver and green variegated foliage, upright to six inches. Can be trimmed to form a shaped shrub, or planted in a row for outlining a formal garden. If left untrimmed, it will cascade down a rock wall or form a loose open shrub about 30 cm across.

Thymus citriodorus - Similar in size to argentea, but gold and green variegation, and a lovely citrus scent when crushed.

Thymus praecox - Mother of Thyme. Loose billowing growth habit, looks great cascading over a wall. Blooms in late summer with pale pink flowers.
