The Easter Egg Hunt
by Jacki
(Blue Fox Farm)
Penguin, the Polish Hen
I have a little black polish silky hen who seems to only lay eggs sporadically, in fact sometimes mistakes the egg laying feeling for something else…and lays her egg while still on the perch. Other times, she lays her egg in the corner of the pen which she has set up as a little nest. I check every day to see if she’s laid an egg, and if she goes longer than a day without laying, I check in her nest. I was very surprised to see that she had taken a leaf out of the deep litter, and set it carefully over the egg to hide it! Now I’m much more careful to check under the leaf to find the egg. It’s like an Easter egg hunt!
