Sustainable Gardening E-Book Review
Sustainable Gardening, written by Jacki Cammidge, Certified Horticulturist, is an amazing book for anyone who wants to find out what this term actually means and how to incorporate it into one’s own garden.
Such elements as mulch beds, composting, capturing rainfall, joining organic farm programs and encouraging wildlife are all discussed.
The book focuses on composting and even as a professional landscape designer, I was taken by how knowledgeable she is.
Although Jacki discusses that it is more than just throwing a bunch of kitchen scraps in a pile, at the same time her exact directions are simple for anyone to follow. She also tells us why and where to use compost for the greatest benefits. It can be used for more than just mixing it into your garden beds, as I am sure many people assume.
Great tips are provided also, such as not using a really thick layer of grass clippings, but if you have this already, what to do to rectify the situation!
Various types of composting are explained along with valuable information on mulching and many other related topics.
Jacki has much "country" experience, yet shares with the reader her scientific knowledge as to how things work, why you should follow certain guidelines, and what to do if issues arise.
I highly recommend this book.
