Drought Smart Plants reply:

Without a picture, this might not be easy. There are a few plants with that distinctive character trait - notably Mesembryanthemum or Livingstone Daisy, which comes in all kinds of different colours, and has a daisy like flower.

Other possible culprits are Delosperma, and another type is Portulaca and there are probably others. Maybe this will give you a starting point.

It's possible that these plants are annuals, which means they flower and die in a single season.

Good luck figuring out your unknown plant!
