Sedum hispanicum ‘Blue Carpet’
Sedum hispanicum ‘Blue Carpet’ is a fine textured small scale groundcover. Best suited to troughs or rockeries it will make a small mound about 40cm across, and up to 10cm tall. When it flowers (eventually) the blooms are pink.
It needs regular pruning – once or twice a year – to keep it from dying back in the center. Try and prevent overhead watering, as this contributes to die back; it does better with drip irrigation on a much reduced cycle. Very fast draining soil, and mulching with lava rock or pebbles are its preference. It seems to have some issues with die back in early spring once the snow disappears, but it recovers with judicious trimming and time. As this plant is not reliably hardy in my Zone 5a garden, only limited quantities are available. Compare it to Sedum hispanicum var. polypetalum.
