Beautiful Hydrangea blooms
I live in the panhandle of Texas Zone 7 . Very dry low humidity and clay soil.
I can go out on the prairie and count on one hand the number of trees I see. I’m from Indiana where you can grow almost anything.
I want big beautiful hydrangeas and colorful rose bushes. Is it possible to have that here even if I don’t have a green thumb?

I doubt if you’ll be able to grow Hydrangeas there. They prefer woodland type conditions – shade, or at least forest edge, with humusy soil, not clay. Roses might do better, but they would probably struggle too.
It’s best to find plants that at least have a chance to survive, and thrive.
There will be some native plants in your area, and other well adapted types of plants and trees that will be planted regularly in towns and cities near you. I would contact a garden club or two in your local area to see if they have any suggestions.
If you’re not a gardener, then don’t attempt to grow plants that are known to be challenging – grow what lives and grows well in your conditions!
If you’ve been following this website at all, you’ll know what I recommend; succulents! However, even those will suffer in clay soil, you would need to build raised beds with their preferred soil in to get their feet out of the clay.
