New Aeonium for 2012

More of our Favorite Succulent Plants

Aeonium arboretum Velour Aeonium are some of the most gorgeous plants around. Easy to grow if their needs are met (bright light, but not in full sun as they tend to sunburn) adequate water in their growing season (spring into early summer) and a summer resting period where they continue to grow slowly.

Resistant to many pests and diseases, they thrive in crowded mixed succulent planters, as a single specimen plant in terracotta clay pots, or grouped into a spectacular in ground bed.

Their unusual and incredibly tall flower stalks will delight and amaze you if you're lucky enough to see them, but the pleasure is bittersweet as this signals the death of that rosette.

Hopefully, you will see more smaller rosettes at the base of the stem which you can propagate for more plants. This is easy to do, and you'll be compelled to find many more containers to plant them in to display on your warm patio or deck.

Don't forget to enter your planter or unique succulent craft in the Best Succulent Containers Contest.

No new Aeonium are expected for 2012, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for more new varieties of these easy and low maintenance plants to add to my collection.
