Aha, I know what this is! Even without a picture, the description of the stems and blooms is a dead giveaway.

Haworthia are often mistaken for Aloe, and they are very similar in structure, but they require slightly different care. As they like more moisture in the soil, and also prefer a little less light, they make the perfect novice succulent gardeners plant. They thrive indoors, unlike Aloe which only grow well in really bright sunshine.
