Orchid Cactus bloom

Orchid Cactus bloom

The plant has long flat leaves/stems. Blooms are soft, fragile, succulent, white and pink. Petals looks like tendrils

Hi Denise, without seeing the actual plant it's hard to tell exactly what the plant is, but from your description, I'm thinking that you have an Orchid Cactus.

You can see more about these interesting plants here: Epiphyllum. These are epiphytes and originate in high tree canopies in the jungle, not really what you would think of as a place to find succulent plants, but they survive off the mist and rain showers that run down the tree limbs.

Other similar plants are the well known Christmas Cactus, or Schlumbergera and its relatives, and the plant known as Queen of the Night.

The flowers of all of these plants are short lived, in some cases less than 24 hours, so it takes a sharp eye to notice when the blooms are about to open so you don't miss them.

Best of luck with your plant,

We have these...
by: Julie

We have had this plant in our family since the 60's. It was my grandmother's plant. The "country" name for it is Jesus Plant. It blooms at night. The inside of the bloom looks like a cradle with a star rising above it. The real name, as far as we could Night Blooming Cereus.

Not quite the same thing...
by: Jacki

Although closely related, the Queen of the Night, or Night Blooming Cereus is not quite the same as Epiphyllum, which is Orchid Cactus.
