Kiss this frog!

by Queen Gloria

The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince The Frog Prince in late July 2010

My husband bought me this really ugly green ceramic frog for my birthday one year, and I didn't have the heart to tell him how much I disliked it.

After hiding it away under the bridge in my garden, guilt drove me to trying to make it a little more attractive. I used a small hammer and very carefully chipped a hole in its back, trying not to break it completely! Then I filled it with potting soil mixed with gravel and planted Sedum and Sempervivum in it.

I actually like it now...

Frogs are People, Too
by: Jacki

Gloria, you can never have too many frogs in your kingdom, even if they are ugly! You did a great job with recycling an item that was unusable into a great garden accent. Thanks for sharing!

Warning - sharp edges
by: Pete, the Handyman

Be careful when you plant this planter frog, as the edges can be really sharp on something that has just been chiseled out - wrap the edges in duct tape to protect your wrists, or wear gloves.

Also use safety goggles when you're chiseling, as the shards can fly a long way.

Garden Safe and be happy!
