Is this a stapelia of some sort?

(South Africa)

I saw this plant on a flea market. My first instincts were that it is some type of stapelia or orbea, etc. I have absolutely no idea why I thought this, because it doesn't look like it!

Branches seem to be trailing slightly, and it has something that looks like thorns on it. Flat leaves, not like the usual stapeliad. Tree-like. Please help me to identify!!

Drought Smart Plants reply: It's unique, I'll say that. I don't recognize the form of the leaves, which as you say, are completely different from Stapelia.

I'd be interested to see what the blooms look like, if and when that happens. Sometimes that is the defining feature of the genus or species, and then it's easier to identify the plant.

Sorry I can't help,
Jacki
