by Kendra
(Colorado)
Vertical-ish stalks bulbous in some areas. Has thick, rounded leaves (when it maintains leaves. It all seems to grow out of a central point. Having a hard time figuring out its needs... Drought Smart Plants reply: I'm going to go out on a limb with this one and ask if it has white sap? If so, I believe it's a Euphorbia, in which case, please be really careful when handling it (and make sure kids or pets can't reach it) as the sap is extremely poisonous and caustic, to the extent that it can cause serious burns, even blindness.

If it doesn't have the white sap, then you can heave a sigh of relief and try looking at Huernia and Stapelia to see if these look familiar. You don't say if it's ever bloomed, but if it's one of those two plants, it will be really evident.
I'd like to hear if you ever get it figured out, Jacki
