Daisy Lirriam ??
by Klarina Meyer
(Ventersdorp South Africa)
I need to know more of the plant. Plant grows in very dry aria in South Africa. Almost desert. Seed grows in 6 day's to this height and dries out very fast. Drought Smart Plants reply:
I'm sure you mean the flower stalk grows that tall in six days (not the seed!).
Are you thinking the name is Dasylirion? You can find out more about that plant on Dave's Garden here: Dasylirion wheeleri. (opens in a new window) There are many other species of this genus, but it looks as though you're on the right track.
If you garden in a dry or arid area, this is one of the most reliable types of plants. If they're well adapted to your climate, they add structure, texture and interest all year.
Give it lots of room, as the razor edged leaves make it an uncomfortable plant to get too close to (not compatible with other plants that need routine care, or beside a pathway).
