Brown Betty and her Chicken Condo

The Chicken Condo

The Chicken Condo

The Chicken Condo Brown Betty in her special broody pen Broody box to keep hen safe from predators Brown Betty with her latest brood

I've been raising chickens here in the Chilcotin for many years, selling the occasional birds to other locals and as many eggs that my flock of about forty birds can produce.

To replace my specialty breeds such as the Araucanas I use a sub flock of Bantams because of their strong mothering instincts. Here is the set up I have built to raise replacement pullets. The mother hen can be isolated so she can hatch out her chicks in peace.

My best little Mama Hen is Brown Betty, a mixed breed Bantam. She shows the ideal characteristics needed to raise happy healthy chicks to take their place in the flock.

If I was a chicken, I'd want to live at your house!!!
What a great set up!! I envy you the steady supply of fresh eggs.
Brown Betty sounds like an absolute delight and certainly exhibits all the characteristics that make Bantams so appealing.
Thanks for sharing the photos and delightful little story.
